StickStar: Love of Sport
Share
StickStar has always been known for three things: belief in the Texas lacrosse player, development, and gear.
All three come from the same place: love. Love of sport. Love of lacrosse. Love of Texas lacrosse.
Love of Sport
We came into this game as players in 1997 before lacrosse in Texas was much more than a few teams and a lot of driving. Nobody was playing for scholarships or rankings. We played because we loved it.
That never changed. We've never wanted sport to be a means to an end. Playing is the point. The kids who love the game are the ones who keep showing up, keep working and keep getting better. And sooner or later, they're the ones who go furthest.
That's how we've always measured it. Not just how far a player goes, but whether they become a lifelong lacrosse player.
Love of Lacrosse
Loving the game means respecting how it's taught.
Over two decades, we built the StickStar Component Based Instructional Methodology, a system of basics that builds, piece by piece. Every StickStar coach spoke the same language and stressed the same details, and that's how #StickStarHabits were born. We asked questions instead of just giving answers, so players learned to think the game, not just play it.
We fell for box lacrosse early, too. We traveled for box for years before we started traveling as Texas Box Lacrosse in 2016. Box builds the hands, toughness and lacrosse IQ that set players apart, and we've seen it become one of the biggest difference-makers for players going on to college.
Love of Texas Lacrosse
In 2004, we took our first group of Texas players to a national tournament: the Butler Bulldog Battle.
Back then, college coaches weren't flying to Texas. The national lacrosse world said there wasn't enough depth of talent here, and that the best players came from somewhere else.
We didn't buy it. We believed more Texas kids could play at the next level, not just the chosen few.
So we kept going back. First there was Team Texas, then Team Dallas, and in 2008, Dallas Select. We came home with the Butler Bulldog Battle championship in 2006, and we did it again in 2007. The Khaki Shorts became a uniform people recognized across the country, and #KhakiCulture was born. In 2011, Texas United took it statewide, bringing players from every corner of Texas under the StickStar banner.
And we were right. More than 230 StickStar alums have gone on to play NCAA lacrosse. Our players have competed in the NCAA, NAIA and MCLA, and in both professional leagues, the PLL and NLL. Today, college coaches do come to Texas, and Texas kids commit to college programs every single year.
We still celebrate every one of them on the StickStar Report Recruiting Radar.

The sun sets. The love doesn't.
The sun has set on our select program. We're proud of every team, every road trip and every player who wore the Khaki Shorts.
But the things that started it all are still here. We believe in the Texas lacrosse player. We always will. And the gear that came out of all those summers, the Khaki Shorts and the hats players wore with pride, is still here. Unique and identifiable, for all the right reasons.
That's what this blog is for. From the Pro Shop is where we'll keep celebrating Texas players, sharing what we've learned about developing them, and showing off the gear.
StickStar. For the love of sport.
